log in on main account crashes

Kubuntu 13.10

I cannot log in with my main account. the guest and a new user account works fine. I've tried other display managers and the same problems occur.

the command line works fine. When I try to use the greeter screen it goes black then returns to the log in page. previously hung at the HDD in box and then only pointer moves, the rset of teh screen is non functional.

Any ideas?

Can we see some LightDM and/or KDM logs -- whichever you're using?

I've deleted a few of the hidden files and the gui has come back to life.I've not found any log worth anything. Think I'm on lightDM.

knowing witch of the hidden files you deleted would have been useful for others with the same problem ........my guess would be the .Xauthority file & you have been starting some GUI apps with sudo ...... yes/no
