apps fail to run

Well I thought this problem was specific to muon, but I find that it isn't.

When I click on "some" apps (muon and 'help' so far), the bouncing icon for the app appears and then the panel displays a box for the app. This goes on for about 20 to 30 seconds at which time the app box in the panel disappears and the bouncing app icon disappears also.

BUT then app never runs.

Any idea what causes this and how to fix it?

Just quickly, if you run them in a konsole you might see informative messages. The command to run muon package manager is "muon" and the help is "khelpcenter".

Interesting - tried muon and got the following:

muon
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

and muon popped up its window and ran. Checked for updates, but it didn't find any. But the update notifier for security updates keeps popping up on the panel.

Same thing with khelpcenter.

But neither will run when I click their icons. Weird (at least to me).

So I tried the muon-updater.

Again it fails to run by clicking the update icon on the panel.

But if I execute 'muon-updater' fromn the konsole it runs just fine and updates the s/w (I assume).

Yes, I get those warnings, most of KDE (well, lots of it) emits warnings, particularly those two. Annoying.

But neither will run when I click their icons.

Sorry, I don't understand. Maybe your path doesn't start well, or your ~/.local/share/applications or /usr/share/applications/kde4 is or are screwy. You might try adding another user, and logging on as that user, to see if the problem is tied to your user.
