Are you using a KWallet? The Plasma widget for Network Manager may not be able to store passwords without a wallet. I'm not 100% certain about this, though.

The Plasma widget interface to Network Manager will automatically store passwords in the wallet -- there's no need to create the entries manually.

The network manager doesn't save this password for me either. I can't get it to "store" -- event though I selected "store" in the VPN setup.

How did you get it to save? Or how do I get the wallet to store it? Neither seems to work right now, so I need to input the password each time I connect the VPN.

Is the KDE wallet subsystem enabled, and have you created at least one wallet?

Yes. And yes. The same password request comes up every time.

I just noticed that when I put the password into the above box, the "Connection editor" changes the network connection from "store" to "ask every time." I have no idea why, but it deletes the stored password and blanks out the box and changes the option.

Do you have a password on the wallet itself? I don't -- some applications can't handle that. A password-less wallet is still better than storing secrets in clear-text files.

I do (though I didn't when I first posted). But now I can't see how to disable it.

Press Alt+F2 and run kwalletmanager. The wallet manager window appears and displays the contents of the wallet that's currently open. Click the Change Password button. Ensure both the "Password" and "Verify" fields are blank, and click OK. Click Yes in the nag window.

Thanks. Tried that and removed the password. Still no go on saving the password. If I keep the Connection Manager open while I try to connect the VPN, I can actually watch it change the settings for that VPN -- it provides a little bar stating that the settings were changed. Then, when I go into the VPN from the Connection Manager, it is set to "Store", but it has deleted the password.

Hm, weird. Please file a bug against the Plasma widget for Network Manager:
                            Code:
                            apport-bug plasma-nm
Mention specifically that you're trying to save a PPTP VPN password in the wallet and that it's failing. Include a link to this thread on the forum. Thanks.

Will do. Thanks for the suggestions.
