Hi Guys,
Did a release upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 and have the same problem on two machines. Release upgrade went without any incident, no errors, no warnings, apparently all successful.
Q: First off, why doesnt "stop lightdm" from the shell prompt work anymore? I could often halt lightdm via start/stop lightdm (to bring down X (for the purposes of installing nvidia driver)). I now have to use the script in init.d to bring down lightdm, other wise i get a "lightdm: unknown instance" error. I notice some systemd messages in the startup, has something changed with the way services start and are controlled (those referenced under /etc/init)? I notice there is no systemctl command anyway.
Q: The options to reboot/shutdown/suspend at the lightdm logon screen are greyed out - WHY Similarly if I try and shutdown once logged into KDE, rather than shutting down the machine, it just logs me out of my current kde session and kicks me back to the lightdm logon screen
Q: No network manager applet on my laptop after upgrade.Could not manage any connections, manually added the applet. Ethernet connection works, i can see a list of wireless networks but cannot join (putting in password and clicking "connect" does nothing", similarly, adding a "new connection" in the network manager does not save the connection at all, list is empty.
I tried nuking the .kde directory under my home dir in case it was a corrupt profile. Made no difference. I suspect it is a permission issue or some issue with polkit?
Any advice?
