Black screen after 13.10 upgrade on my desktop

Hello

On an old hardware I'm not able to start Kubuntu 13.10
History
I was running 13.04 without issue then:
1st step : Upgrade to 13.10 by standard procedure is OK but after reboot the screen is black with label Kubuntu in white caracters and blue shadow
2nd step : New system installation from DVD on same Hard disk but other partitions (/ and /home) of Kubuntu 13.10. Installation OK and after reboot ==> Same problem !
3rd step : Installation of Kubuntu 12.10 (quetzal) from DVD (replacement of preceeding installation) Installation and reboot OK
4st step : upgrade to 13.04 by standard procedure. System runs perfectly
5st step : upgarde to 13.10 by standard procedure OK and after reboot ==> Same problem !

NB : I'm running 13.10 on my laptop after upgrade by standard procedure and every things run perfectly

Any idea to solve my problem on my old desktop ?

I've read somewhere that the upstream developers had dropped support for some older video hardware. Have you tried booting with the 'nomodeset' option?

I'd test option "nomodeset" and the problem is still present

From recovery mode on 13.10 I detected that Internet is not set up (no inet add but one inet6)
NB : Inet add is set up on older kubuntu release (13.04)

This PC belongs to my best friend and I don't know him as a receiver of stolen goods !
The PC was running Windows (XP as far as i remember) and i replaced Windows by Kubuntu 6 months ago. It was running properly until i migrated to release 13.10
Any sugestion to make it running last release of Kubuntu ? (today it's dual boot with Kubuntu 13.04 and 13.10)
NB : I'll ask my friend for the way used to buy the PC

That mobo ID (P5VD2-MX SE) came with a variety of video chips. I don't understand why you supplied a lot of networking info for a video problem? I must be blind because I didn't see in any of your posts a line identifying the video chip that mobo has. It would be helpful to know. In googling that mobo ID I saw S3, SIS, VIA, NVIDA and other video chips listed for several with that model ID.

What does

I have DISPLAY problem but also Internet connection problem (When i start Kubuntu 13.10 in recovery mode the Inet address is not set up)

As a quickie fix for your video problem open a konsole and use sudo to issue
rm -f /etc/X11/xorg.conf
restart Xorg

If that doesn't give you a login screen then my next recommendation would be to revert to Kubuntu 13.04 to restore both your video and network, because the Linux window has moved beyond your machine and any subsequent manual installation may or may not work.

You could play with the via.ko driver or, if it is on your system, the s3.ko driver. First, do
sudo lsmod
to see what video driver, if any, is being used. If either is listed and removing the xorg.conf file didn't help then try the other, and issue
sudo startkde
to see if the KDE login screen starts up.

As far as your eth0 driver is concerned does
locate vt6102.ko
show anything . I doubt it will. The only VT6* drivers I see are the vt6655_stage.ko and the vt6656_stage.ko.

You might be stuck with 13.04 for a long time as the kernel/driver window moves farther into the future.

In recovery mode i tried to read /etc/X11/xorg.conf but no such file.
After googleing I read that in Ubuntu this file is /usr/share/X11/xorgconf.d/xorg.conf . I didn't found it too

I noticed that the / FS is mounted in read mode !
From my other system (13.04) I check by fsck /dev/sda2 and no problem . Only (0.3% not contiguous)

From recovery mode on 13.10 the read mode is still present.
NB : /etc/fstab looks rights
UUID=....... / ext4 errors=remount,ro 0 1

I noticed only one strange thing in my HD partitions (sda3 is before sda2 ?
Primary sda1 Kubuntu 13.04
Primary sda3 swap
Primary sda2 Kubuntu 13.10 /
Extended sda4
sd5 Kubuntu /home

Any sugestion?

NB : FYI : PC was, in fact, built from pieces bought in small shops in Paris. May be not official pieces

It's looks like the "compatibility window" has slid into the future, away from your video and network hardware, probably because of the newer kernel drivers. Your best solution would be to install an earlier version of Kubuntu. Try the LiveCD first to see if you get both video and networking.

The system is running without problem (neither video nor Internet connection)
I don't know what is wrong in Saucy (13.10) for my hardware
