            Count me in for liking the new one better as well. The old one was very unintuitive for moving around different views and getting to and from the settings for a particular connection.

              plasma-nm (the widget) itself doesn't talk to the network card, and only displays whatever Network Manager knows about. wpa_supplicant continuously scans and informs Network Manager of new wi-fi networks, which plasma-nm then shows.
