    system tray missing any network management after upgrade to kde 4.11.2

    Ever since the recent upgrade to KDE 4.11.2 I have no way to setup a wireless connection.
    Before it was a breeze with a System Tray applet.

    NetworkManager works and brings wired network in the background.

    I nuked all the KDE settings and rebooted. No luck.

    I removed NetworkManager and replaced it with WICD.
    The network management widget is now available but crashes PLASMA
    no matter where I add it: system tray, panel, or desktop.

    I looked through other threads and other people have the same problem.
    They solve it by other means.

    I have plasma-nm installed and plasma-widget-networkmanagement removed.
    But I tried the other way around and it didn't work either.

    At the command line, nm-tool shows wireless to be there but it's "disconnected".
    If it helps, my WiFi needs a password so there might be a broken connection
    between Kwallet and NetworkManager. So I made sure that eveything is "allowed"
    in /etc freedesktop NetworkManager

      There is no help from any current thread in the forum.

      NetworkManager disappeared and is gone from "hidden" icons and from "System Tray Settings".
      From Panel Widgets and from Plasma Widgets.

      The thread you're pointing to is a user error. The person had NetworkManager disabled.
      I went through the same process and NetworkManager is simply gone from any UI setting or dialog:
      System Tray, Panel, Desktop Plasma Widget.

      Is there a config file I could potentially edit to enable it? I did remove the KDE config files
      completely so the problem must be somewhere in the system level setting.

      WICD would show up in System Tray settings but it crashes Plasma Desktop if I try to enable it.

      but all the screenshots contain an option for "network management" of some kind.
      In my case, it is missing in all those screens and menus.

      I also did: kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
      and nothing changed.

      Any suggestions? Is it because I use WPA2 encryption?

        when you say "I did remove the KDE config files completely" just what do you mean ?
        which config files and from where ,,,,,,,"this may have been a bad idea"

        it is not because you use WPA2 ,,,,I use it as well and my wireless is working and I have network management in my system tray and as a choice in systemtray settings

          I made an upgrade on my kubuntu 13.10 yesterday and I have no longer "sleep" option.
          Everything was working perfectly on my laptop before the last update.

            I made my home work and I think I found it.
            In the boot sequence/advanced option/recovery
            then fsck
            then dpkg
            at least it worked for me ;-)

              Removed all KDE settings:
              Code:
              cd $HOME
rm -rf .kde
              I also removed a few more directories in .config and .local for a good measure.
              It's a non-production setting so it's OK to be at square 1 every once in a while.

              The reason I did it is because it worked before. After an update I had problems logging in so I removed the settings and things went back to normal.

              I'm still not ruling out WPA2 because there are some messages in the logs from the NetworkManager that it tries to obtain "secrets" and no secrets found.

                I'm happy to announce that this issue is solved.

                Unfortunately, I don't know what was wrong.

                My post mortem analysis suggests that plasma-nm package was somehow not working on my system.

                I had plasma-nm 0.9.3.0-0ubuntu3 and now I have plasma-nm 0.9.3.0-0ubuntu5

                The plasma-widget-networkmanagement 0.9.3.0-0ubuntu3 was removed by apt-get autoclean.
