    Gimp toolbar doing weird things

Occasionally, after various operations, the Gimp toolbar changes size or loses half the tools. E.g., to make this post, I used ksnapshot to make an image of the "normal" toolbar. I have attached it. (I do not know how to put images in the post.) Aha, it's the on on the left.

After the ksnapshot, the toolbar had become what is shown in toolbar-bad1.jpg, with half the tools gone and no tool options. The image in the middle, which I have widened myself just to show that the other tools are not lurking in the margins.

So I kill it and use ctl-B to make a new toolbar. But it looks like toolbar-new.jpg, the 3rd one, with no tool options. To get that, I have to go thru Windows>Dockable Dialogs>Tool options, then drag the options over to the appropriate place on the toolbar.

Given that I have to do this every two pix or so, it is a pain. Does no one else have this problem?

Maybe a partial solution would be to save my tool options. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this, even tho the Gimp manual claims it is "self-explanatory". Any recoomendations/

I had this problem before (http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...050#post322050) and was not alone. But no solution was forthcoming. Maybe luck will be better today.

Btw, when making multiple corrections, it used to be so easy just to do a ctl-S. Now, we have to go thru export...

It happens occassionally here that my Gimp toolbar somehow ends up looking similar to your middle picture above - not too often though. If it happens, closing the toolbar and then going to Windows > Recently closed docks and selecting it has so far always restored it to normal.

That's the single most thing that annoys me the most now. Forcing you to save your files in some hillbilly xcf format is totally braindead. Just all too often, I find myself hitting Ctrl+S, and up comes that retarded "Save as xcf" dialog, which no even remotely sane person can use. They must've been on a bad crack trip when they came up with that.
