    Great thanks
    This worked from X
    Code:
    sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all
    Not too great.
    This still has a problem:
    fintan@fintanws1:~$ locate *vmware*component
    fintan@fintanws1:~$
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
    4 GB Ram
    Kubuntu 18.10

Alright, so we have a better command for building the modules.

As for finding the tools stuff, try this instead:
      Code:
      locate *vmware*component.tar*
      Does this reveal anything?

Player deletes the downloaded file if installation fails. Poop. That means you have to manually download the tools component and install it.

I've updated my instructions. Please see the replacement steps in the Tools section.

Hi Steve, that worked but I still get the update tools window when starting win 7 guest. Updating fails with:

Mine's identical. Not sure what to think about your situation. Can you install the tools in the guest?

I had the same error, but it disappeared when I manually downloaded and installed the tools component as I described in my KB post.

Reaching the end of my ideas here...I suppose you've tried completely removing and reinstalling VMware Player at some point during all this time?
