    Cheese not working

Cheese just hangs without opening before closing. No crash reports etc.
HP Pavilion DV6 with Kubuntu 13.04.
This is rather urgent and important to fix because this is my 6yo daughters laptop and she loves pulling faces at the camera.
We need to get this fixed so that I can actually have her use her laptop and not mine (HP Pavilion DM1 with Cheese working beautifully!!

    Error message from Konsole:

(cheese:4305): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
    (Details: serial 142 error_code 1 request_code 153 minor_code 19)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
    Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

Have you tried the KDE program Kamoso instead?

Hi oshunluvr, have tried Kamoso, But it doesn't pick up the internal or usb webcam and doesn't have those cool effects the 6yo daughter thinks is amazingly awesome (her words lol). I've tested Skype on her system and Skype works great (apart from having to apply a fix), but Cheese just hangs

True on the effects (my daughter is 9 ). Odd for me since Cheese and Skype were always a pain and Kamoso was the only one that detected my camera without any set up. There are a few bug reports out there, but they're all old. You might have to report a new bug. Sorry I can't think of any solutions.

It is rather odd, but a bug report it will be. I'm stumped as Cheese always works

bear in mind that both the built-in and usb webcam work flawlessly. Cheese does not even open. It just hangs before closing
