    Kickoff application launcher - shortcut

    Hi,

I have problem with keyboard shortcut of Kickoff application launcher. The shortcut (Alt+F1, for example) does not work. After re-setting works well but only up to next logoff or restart.

    Any help?

Go to KDE System Settings > Startup and Shutdown > Session Management. Under the "On login" heading, click on "Restore previous session" and click Apply. Log out ande back in (after you set up the keyboard shortcuts, that is) and see if that works.

        Functional workaround:

switch to classic menu and then re-enable the kickoff launcher. it works for me. even after restart.

Good! At least you got it to work (the keyboard shortcut that is)

If you haven't given it a try yet, try Lancelot menu. Its much better than Kickoff in my opinion although it is a little gimicky.

There are many application launchers: http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...tion-Launchers
              Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

This is why I love Kubuntu and/or KDE. Plenty of different possibilities to customize my desktop.

                Thanks a lot!

I just had my Kickoff button (The blue one on the bottom left with white K and gear) disappear. Nearly freeeked out. I played with it for more than an hour and discovered that you can remove the whole task bar, and reinstall it by simply adding a default panel. Go to the extreme right of the task bar and click on the "Panel Tool Box" button. When the panel controls come up, click on the "More Settings" button on the right. Then select the "Remove this Panel" option. It will ask you if you really want to remove the panel. Confirm that you do. Then go up to the Desktop Button on the top right of your Plasma Desktop and RIGHT click it. Click on "Add Panel", then select "Default Panel"

Everything on the task bar--including the Kickoff menu button will come back, and you're good as new. My Distro is Kubuntu Raring Ringtail 13.04.

You really don't need to remove (and then restore) the entire taskbar for that. Just right-click on an empty spot of your taskbar and select "Settings for taskbar > Add widget". From the list, select "Lancelot" for the Lancelot menu or "K menu" for the Kickoff menu. (If Lancelot isn't in that list, you need to install the package plasma-widget-lancelot using Synaptic, Muon or whatever else you use.)
