Error explanation
I am having trouble with a wubi install of Kubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu with the Unity interface with no trouble. But when I select Kubuntu everything installs, but when it I had selected for wubi to take 30GB of space.
When it rebooted post-install the login splash screen started to appear (the background appeared and the graphical dots showing boot progress) but nothing else. And it hung there, showing no progress. It sat like that for around 5 minutes.
I logged back into Windows, deleted wubi install, reinstalled Kubuntu with 18GB of space. Installed, but when reboots post-install, I get a Grub error that says "NTFS5 pretext not set."
Logged back into Windows, deleted wubi install, reinstalled with Ubuntu with Unity, 30GB of space for the wubi install, rebooted and Ubuntu runs fine. So far in searches on Kubuntu forums and Ubuntu Forum.org I haven't found anything for the "pretext not set error." I am continuing internet searches.
Kubuntu 13.04

GPU: Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS
RAM: 8 GB

You're right, thank you. It was "prefix" and not "pretext."
SteveRiley,
I think that's right. I found similar info after a while. So I eventually just burnt Kubuntu on a disk and installed it that way. So far it's been running great! I'm so glad to be back on KDE.
Thanks for the help : )
