    KWin crashes

I recently upgraded to 13.04 simply because I had continuous crashes from firefox

After upgrading the problems with firefox persisted - print preview freezes and requires reboot, firefox itself freezes and also requires rebooting.

Since I get a KWin error message every time I have to reboot I thought that the problem may be with that file.
Bug reporting is only possible after you download an extra 400 MB of data and at the end one is then told that you cannot submit the crash report unless you are registered. Come on, chaps! Surely it is possible to do that upfront.

As it is Firefox is useless, a piece of software that has been part of the internet longer than linux. Not a good sign.

not an entirely good reason to upgrade to a development release.

let me ask ,,,did you do a net upgrade of the previous system, or a clean install ? AND did you keep your old /home partition (if you had one)??

you must register to get notified of updates to your bug report (including any fixes that may come about) and to be sure your a person with a real problem .

It was a clean, very basic install

some files were re-installed but /home was also brand-new

it is not a question of being notified of any answers, it clearly states at the end of the whole rigmarole of downloading and installing that you have to register - NOT UP FRONT

I am sure it is because on Win.. I can't remember having had problems

using a Qosmio G30 with linux installed on drive 2, w7 on drive 1. Kubuntu 13 was installed from an iso-download and is upgraded regulalrly including the latest firefox and system updates.
And as I said, the problems were already there on 12.04 and 12.10

from what I see on line about that box (you could have given some specks) your problem may be graphics related , dose it have the Nvidia GPU (lspci will tell you ) and just 1Gig of RAM (is this right)?? ,,,,,, try turning off the desktop effects and see if it gets any better , + look in kickoff>applications>system and use the additional drivers application to see if there is a better/different driver for your GPU
