Pre-release drama, brought to you by SABDFL

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...y/+bug/1154229

Michael Hall: "Let's add some new Unity scopes, more than 100! We can get them into Raring still, right?"

Scott Kitterman: "WTF are you smoking? Do you realize how late it is in the cycle?"

Benjamin Kerensa: "Yeah really WTF. Did that already with the Amazon snooping thing. Not again..."

Jeremy Bischa: "It'll be buggy, duh, and no time to fix it, duh."

Olli Reis: "God asked for it."

Stéphane Graber: "Until god himself comments here, this is all just BS."

    Scott Kitterman: *grumble* *grumble*

    Stefano Rivera: "Screw this." WONTFIX

Wow -- what a perfect example of the case for a rolling release.

Just in case anyone hasn't run across the term before, SABDFL = Self Appointed Benevolent Dictator For Life = Mark Shuttleworth.

Just to note, Scott Kitterman is our loveable curmudgeon Kubuntu dev. I wish he'd blog more, but he does make our presence known to the Ubuntu devs when needed -- iirc he had a hand in them not killing the actual 13.04 release, if I am recalling that correctly.

That's crazy. Makes you think they don't take non-LTS releases very seriously.

lolwtf? Delaying stuff for some pathetic Dash nonsense would be seriously stupid

Although, this isn't near as stupid as the "Mir" stuff that Sabdfl has been cooking in secret for the last half year...

Well, I suppose this could have been predicted. The new Dash just got punted to S-Series.

                    Comment #36 in the bug:

After a recent review we have come to the conclusion that this feature is not at a stage that we'd like to see in Ubuntu and thus we are not pursuing to push this feature into Ubuntu 13.04.

Instead, we will be landing it in 13.10 once the current issues are resolved. Ubuntu Users will be able to still use the feature by installing it from a Ubuntu R based PPA which will be rebased with any relevant R update. We will update this bug once the relevant details are documented.

In the course of the next couple of days we will also clean up this bug report with the necessary actions for R &S.

We appreciate your support and patience.
