    Problems with Amarok

Amarok is not working as it should with me. I am using a daily build of 13.04 (from 06.02) and 32 bit. Whenever I click on a music file it acts as if it has been queued and will not play until it is double-clicked on the playlist. Sometimes Amarok whirls about in the bottom panel and then just disappears too ( the file has been added to the playlist though). Any suggestions as to how to correct this (am I using a wrong setting? - they are all set to default) would be greatly appreciated.

    Tried a reinstall of amarok?

    Tried deleting the config file?

Thanks for the reply and suggestions, dmeyer.
No, I had not tried either of those but have done so now.
I purged amarok and its utilities and common files - no effect at all when re-installed after a reboot.
I found as many config and shared files as I could in the hidden files and deleted the lot - no effect at all when amarok re-installed after a reboot.
      Hehe.

Arbitrary question. Are you using a 32bit Amarok install on 32bit Kubuntu?

To help with diagnosing can you please run it from konsole and report back any output you get. It might tell us whats wrong.

dmeyer, the install is the default one with the daily build iso (32 bit).
I think it did the same thing with a daily build from 03.02 which was why I thought I would try another one.
I have noticed that its About says '' Version 2.7.0 Using KDE 4.10.00'' but I have not updated the KDE SC yet.

claydoh, sorry I do not know how to do the bug reporting thing.

dmeyer, how do I run it from konsole?

Open konsole. Then run "amarok". Make sure its exited entirely before you run it from the command line.

already tried - my options are ''ignore'' or ''add to dictionary'' when I try with rekonq - so much potential and yet so damn annoying, but that is another topic for another day.

Hmm, have you tried changing your phonon backend to vlc? Just get it from the repos.

To set it up: Phonon > Backend > VLC. Then log out and back in.

ok, thanks again for your patience, dmeyer.
Have installed vlc but there is not an option in the settings to use it for the backend of phonon - just the default gstreamer setting.

Not vlc. I meant vlc-phonon-backend or phonon-vlc-backend or something along those lines. Just search for it with the package manager and install it. Sorry I should have clarified that.

ok, tried the phonon-vlc-backend and then set it as the preferred option for the backend but still the problem persists. So then I tried a 64 bit install and still the same issue. Have noticed too that in the first instance Amarok usually asks for a location (to buy music) and also plays the theme tune since that is first in the default playlist. It is doing neither of these.

Did you logout/login after the backend change?

To be honest, the original error didn't even really point at the backend. I think at this stage you should file a bug report. You are using a development version so expect to see bugs. There isn't much you can do except wait for an update or move to something supported like 12.10, 12.04 or even 11.10
