    KDE RC3 and new Kernel

Just did sudo aptitude full-upgrade in Raring and see that KDE ia now 4.9.98 and uname -r shows 3.8.0-1. So now I can see where this goes. I'm thinking about reinstalling 12.10, upgrading KDE to 4.9.98 and seeing if that doesn't clear up a few issues I am still having.

I am going to mess with wine for awhile and see if I can get MS Office 2007 to at least function correctly on word and exell for the stuff I need to do for work. Would like to reclaim the partition space I am using for Windows. If I can get Office to function, then I will re-install 12.10 and upgrade KDE.

What problems are you having? I have it working on both raring and quantel. Are you using 64bit?

Do remember to use apt-get dist-upgrade to make sure you get all full-updates and additions. I have seen sometimes during the pre-release development cycle where dependency packages are in flux or not quite yet in the repos that aptitiude gets too "smart" and makes a bit of a mess of things.

I'm using 64 bit. I re-installed yesterday with Raring and eliminated the Windows partition. I installed all updates and am back to Kernel 3.8.0-1 and KDE 4.9.98. I installed playonlinux which required xterm and p7zip-full. Then I installed MS Office 2007. Word and Powerpoint worked, but Excel has to run from safe mode. That willl do for work for now, but I will see what I can find to get around the safe mode issue.

I installed all the other programs I use, kmymoney, cinelerra, openshot, vlc, smplayer, winff, smplayer, and also installed kscreensaver, and a few other odds and ends.

Bassically at this point I am having a few issues with plasmoid widgets crashing, but I was just using them to get info straight to desktop without having to open a browser. I can use the news feed widget and put RSS links in it and get the info I need or open Firefox and get info that way.

At this point I am pretty much sitting back and waiting to see the distro polish up over the next few moths before release.

I've had aptitude bite me a time or two in the past. I keep all my work reports on a flash drive. I figure worse case I will have to take an hour or so to reload the system or go down to my work truck and use my work laptop if needed.
