It being basically outside our solar system is probably security enough... not many have the tech to hack into that and those that do have more interesting things to do with it.

When you start to feel bad about your kubuntu boot time... go boot up a Windows XP system. You'll feel much better.

My Windows VMs boot way faster than bare metal installs ever did. Even on this same X1.

Did that once back in the 11.10 days, on the T410 I had then. After spending well over four hours learning how to do all that, the performance gains were noticeable only in a bootchart report or with a carefully-operated stopwatch. So, ah, it seems like a rather pointless exercise now, just like you mentioned earlier.
