Happened to me, and I jumped into various downloads and mucking about, then noticed a little icon sitting in the system tray (or whatever it's called). It said something from the update didn't complete, do I want to do it now? Sorted in seconds. (I used to always notice things like that...)
Maybe you've got that little icon, I suppose it might be called a yellow light-bulb.

Okay,so I was using Ghostery and Adblock extensions for Chrome and in some way, pausing them and then unpausing(it's not a word,I know) them caused flash player to start working again. So I guess there was some kind of conflict between flash player and ghostery/adblock.
