How to use dolphin instead of the KDE-notifications to show copying/moving of files

    Hello Forum,

I am using Kubuntu 12.10 and im quite happy with it. But one thing bothers me. Coming from GNOME I'm used to have a Window of the file manager informing me about the process of copying or moving files. In Kubuntu 12.10 however there is only a notification in the notification area of the panel.
Dolphin itself does not show any information if I copy or move files.
Now I'd like to know if there is an option to make Dolphin show me a window in which the status of my Copy-process is displayed.

On searching the forum I have found this:
    http://aseigo.blogspot.de/2009/01/to...-schmancy.html

But I think that this will turn of any notifications about current activities.

Thanks for answers in advance ^^

EDIT: I've just tried the above and could not even find the file specified in the post.
    I checked ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc
    and ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktoprc
but found no option that seemed likely to help.

    hello
I'm not aware of any such feature in dolphin. Depending on which file manager that you used and that all Ubuntu packages are in the repositories, why not use the one that you had previously?

With GTK2 and GTK3 themes installed it wouldn't look much different then Dolphin.

I don't think there is any direct way to do this. You can edit the settings in that link by right clicking the notifications widget and editing its settings but it does not cause dolphin to use a dialog instead (at least on 4.10).

Is there any reason you don't want to give the notifications a try (apart from familiarity)? They are a nicer way to consolidate background tasks like copying rather then opening a new window for each task.

Plasma vs KDE vs other file transfer notifications

        Background

That Aaron Seigo's tip (http://aseigo.blogspot.de/2009/01/to...-schmancy.html) is from 2009 / KDE 4.2 (?) - from the KDE 4.3 onwards you could disable the plasma file transfer notifications from the tray notifications settings.

        With the Kubuntu 12.10 / KDE 4.9

        Plasma file transfer notification

KDE native (non plasma) file transfer

With the Kubuntu 13.04 (alpha) / KDE 4.10 (RC)

        Plasma file transfer notification

        Notes

At here the plasma is keeping tightly of its notifications - the plasma needs to be stopped and restarted - or log out & in.

        Plasma restart:
        Code:
        :~$ kquitapp plasma-desktop
        :~$ plasma-desktop

        Other Options

        Colibri:
        - http://agateau.com/projects/colibri/

        :~$ apt-cache show colibri

Description: provides an alternative to KDE 4 Plasma notifications
colibri notifications look lighter and are completely passive: they do
not provide any buttons. You may or may not like this.
Since they are completely passive, they smoothly fade away when you
mouse over them, allowing you to interact with any window behind them.
They also do not stack each others: if multiple notifications happen,
they will be shown one at a time.

          @OneLine: Thanks a lot^^ that helped.
(I have been searching the dolphin settings extensively but could not find any option. I did not even consider going to the notification-settings...)
