FTP Speeds Faster in Windows

I have a dedicated server on a gigabit line, and I have a 15Mb/s line to my house. When using Filezilla in Kubuntu I get a max of just under 10Mb/s. If I boot to win 8, and I use SmartFTP(haven't tested Filezilla) I get speeds of about 13-15Mb/s. I have tried to Limit the number of simultaneous connections in FileZilla to 6, which is the same setting I use in SmartFTP, but that doesn't help. Any idea why my FTP speeds from the same server to my desktop are so diffrent in Windows 8 vs Kubuntu?

So what do you recommend? Rsync? Last time I tried SFTP, it was much slower. I realize SFTP does add some over head but I am not interested in cutting speeds in half. I suppose I can try rsync but that can get tiresome using cli all the time.

Not sure the relevance here but yes I run vsftpd and already have it configured running these same options.

How does dolphin preform? just type ftp://<ip-address/hostname> or sftp://<ip-address/hostname> in the address bar

Dolphin seems to have higher peak speeds as it is able to hit 15Mb/s, but the average speed is much worse as it is bouncing all over the place. At least Filezilla only fluctuates about 1 or 2Mb/s.

I just use Dolphin. There is another client in the repo - kftpgrabber - but I've never tried it.

Even if Dolphin works, it is just not a reasonable FTP client for my needs. I need a full featured ftp client. I tried kftpgrabber but it has not been updated in along time, and found it to be very buggy if memory serves me right.

If you use Firefox there is an extension called fireftp that might be helpful. I like it, but I have never paid much attention to the download speeds.

Technically, it would help, BUT the problem is, or at-least that I can see, if I want it to be recursive. For example, if I need to grab a folder with files in it, or folders in it, I need it to be able to create the folders accordingly on my HDD.
