    Bringing Back Blue GRUB & Customized LightDM Recommendations

    I'm not sure what inspired the new GRUB+Kubuntu gray background, but man is this thing dull. Can someone give me some instructions on how to revert it back to the nice blue GRUB days?

    I would really love to find some already customized LightDM login themes. I find that the default theme is too simple for my liking, so is there a website (hopefully we are allowed to post links) like opendesktop that we see a variety of selections?

    Grub

    Ubuntu community Grub2 docs: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2

    The Grub2 supports background images - one way to set the grub splash / backgroud is to make the /usr/share/desktop-base/grub_background.sh

    At here:
    Code:
    WALLPAPER="/lib/plymouth/themes/my-plymouth/background.png"
    COLOR_NORMAL="black/black"
    COLOR_HIGHLIGHT="green/black"
    Colors: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Gr...nu_Font_Colors

    After the grub_background.sh is there the update should find the background image

    :~$ sudo update-grub
    [sudo] password for oneline:
    Generating grub.cfg ...
    Found background image: /lib/plymouth/themes/my-plymouth/background.png

      There are dozens of lightdm themes available on the web. Go looking...
      ...I saw a cool one that was looking into a blank a blank room.

      As far as GRUB goes: You can add a background image by putting it in /boot/grub and naming it "background" with whatever file type for extension. Only .tga, .png, and .jpg are supported. If you want the blank color, try editing /lib/plymouth/default.grub and change 75,75,75 to the color code you want. Use RGB color codes: http://www.rapidtables.com/web/color/RGB_Color.htm . I think 20,20,200 is a nice blue.

        BTW: don't forget to run update-grub after any changes

          I don't have one of those, but I do have a /lib/plymouth/themes/default.grub which is a link to /etc/alternatives/default.plymouth.grub

            Yes, that grey boot screen is seriously ugly.

            Simple solution: Install plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo, which gives you a nice purple boot screen.

            Otherwise, you can edit the Kubuntu plymouth theme, which is here:
            /lib/plymouth/themes/kubuntu-logo/

            The colours are defined in kubuntu-logo.script, the background is in background.png.
            Kubuntu Raring Ringtail x64 w/ Kde 4.10.5

            Multimedia packages for Kubuntu x64 (x264 10bit, mplayer2, Aegisub etc.)

                I installed KCM-Grub2 and have now a configuration mode in the general settings, system configuration, starting and closing. Absolut brilliant.

                  yes the kcm-grub2 is quite nice and will let you configure a background , I have a custom one set already (as in before I installed it to see how well it would remove old kernels) but it doesn't seem to auto detect it.

                    I've now created a much better Plymouth bootscreen

                      That plytmouth theme you got there looks nice, but I wish someone would make a verision of the previous Blue Kubuntu theme. I seriously don't understand how they went from something beauitful to something so dull. Thanks for the plymouth theme guides everyone, but I was just hoping to find a gallery-type website that has it already done (for the lazy folks).

                      (I miss the beautiful blue Kubuntu days.)

                        you could just open up the GIMP and make a blue gradient .png and set it in /lib/plymouth/themes/kubuntu-logo/ or strip the stock one from a 11.10 or was it 11.04 .iso and place it their

                          well 5min in GIMP got this https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8...0/Untitled.png
                          and hear is the background from the spotlight kdm theme https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-h...background.png
                          if you put it in the place of the current plymouth background.png and then install the spotlight kdm theme you will have an almost seamless startup
                          not exactly the one you wanted but still nice cool blue ones ,,,,,,,he he he

                              kubuntu-logo or some other plymouth theme?

                              /lib/plymouth/themes/kubuntu-logo/kubuntu-logo.script:

                              Note - the kubuntu-logo is using the background.png
