    firefox global menu

Hello all. I'm currently testing Kubuntu 12.10 (for bout a week) and I'm impressed. Very stable, everything works, quite versatile KDE implementation. I used it for work all last week, 10+ hours a day, no problems. Plus, "all* the media/brightness etc keys on my Thinkpad keyboard work ootb, and that never happened on any distro, Ubuntu included. I'm really impressed.

So I'd like to keep this distro and now less important details come to attention, which I'd like to fix in order to make it perfect. Like this: when I activated the plasma menubar widget, miraculously chromium, gimp, etc, picked it up as well, without further tweakage. However, not Firefox. So I installed the global menubar extension, that worked, but right-click menus and dropdowns in the browser stopped working. Is there any way around this?

Another thing related to Firefox, in system settings, under gtk styles, i have "show icons in menus" unchecked, however FF doesn't honor this setting.
edit: well scrap that last question, I solved it with a userstyle. If anyone's interested: http://userstyles.org/styles/20832/h...-context-menus

    Welcome to KFN.

Firefox is always going to be problematic in Kubuntu, or (likely) in any KDE-centric Linux Distro. It's an ongoing battle to get a 'satisfactory' integration of FF and KDE.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

I know, that's why I don't really hold it against the distro at all, don't consider it its failing. Like I said the plasma widget works better than anywhere else. However, this with the actual FF extension seems like a bug so I was hopeful I'd get some pointers on how to proceed..

'Stay tuned' as they say. I don't user FF, but many here do. FF issues are frequent, and often a solution has been identified. So, watch this thread.

          Yep, I intend to, thanks.

The problem also occurs in Thunderbird. The right-click and dropdown menu will disappear after some time. There are some bug reports in the following links.

But none of the solution seems working. Currently I disable the global menu extention addon of firefox and thunderbird

Just as something extra, don't try Oxygen KDE from the Mozilla site, its often broken and/or outdated. Use the one available from the Author's site itself. It has multiple versions for multiple fire-fox versions.

Also, as far as I know, I have an extension installed from the repos, not Mozilla's repo and it works fine.

AFAIK - Firefox and Thunderbird aren't gtk+ apps, so any settings in kde-config-gtk (or kde-config-gtk-style) are not using by Mozilla's apps. If I know, Firefox-globalmenu (or any globalmenu) is using only by Unity. Similar utility in KDE is named appmenu-kded - just look at: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php...content=153882
For the better integration of Mozilla's apps in KDE I usually use: Oxygen KDE (http://oxygenkde.altervista.org/) or/and kmozillahelper from https://launchpad.net/~blue-shell/+archive/firefox-kde
There is also firefox-qt project, but... it looks like abandoned.
Try Oxygen KDE and/or kmozillahelper and appmenu kded (it's still not stable, yet).

Thanks all for your suggestions and tips.
                  @pavbaranov
Like I mentioned I have no problems with global menus anywhere on the system except when it comes to Firefox, this widget http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/p...widget-menubar makes it work great on KDE, under Kubuntu in particular.

I did set GTK styles to qtcurve and icons to Kfaenza in the system settings and FF picked that up, except "no icons in menus" .. anyway that's solved. I'm actually very happy with the browser's integration in KDE, except obviously the global menu thing. I now have the FF menu accessible like this: http://ompldr.org/vZzJuMw
But it would be nice to have the global menu extension work as intended.
Btw the reason I'm obsessed with removing menubars from windows (and windecos when maximized) is my 16:9 display.

Maybe try appmenu-kded. It's still in developing but it's in KDE's repository and it's planned to be a part of KDE. There is PPA with it for 12.10: https://launchpad.net/~blueleaflinux...filter=quantal

Thanks for the tip looks very interesting. It will also be interesting to see if they include it in KDE.

This is still a bug, annoyingly. More annoying since with KDE 4.10, it's even easier to enable global menu bar/button.
