no, you cannot "upgrade" to 64 bit, it requires a fresh install, unfortunately.

Having upgraded FreeBSD from 32bit to 64bit in the past (another impossible upgrade) allow me to say: Trust me, you don't want to do it. Just reinstall, it's a hell of a lot quicker and easier and it won't make you cry.

Is it worth it? Stick with 12.04 or upgrade to 12.10?

I think that's a question you need to answer for yourself.

Personally, I switched to 12.10 on my desktop when b2 came out. I'm still on 12.04 on my server.

I have to fix less with the '.04 versions. But that's just me.

Good to see you here. What do you mean by fix less?

For me it seems that the LTS versions are less likely to break. Though I have to admit that 12.10 is doing fairly well. I do have its modem-manager get messed up. The only thing that will fix it for me is to reboot. Not even KPPP will connect once modem-manager goes bad. I'm still chasing the cause.
