Is anybody going to help me figure this out or do I have to reinstall Ubuntu? In that case I'll go back to Percise until 12.10 gets debugged.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

I selected a generic kernel from the GRUB menu but that didn't fix the problem. I still get a ubuntu 12.10 crash.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Are you seeing an error message that indicates /usr/bin/synaptic.cfg?
Paste a copy of /var/log/syslog to http://paste.kde.org and reply here with the URL.

Well, nothing in the syslog about Synaptic. Your computer appears to take a long time to boot, and you have some disk errors, though.
It sounds rather weird -- a Synaptic error during boot that causes a crash. Does the crash happen before or after the login screen appears?

I am thinking that maybe I need a BIOS driver for my Segate Glo Flex USB external hard drive that I use for Ubuntu. I think vinney uses a Glo Flex maybe he knows if anything is needed to boot properly. I always have to boot twice when booting from a cold start before the BIOS sees the Glo Flex drive then i see the grub menu. Ubuntu takes a while to figure out how to boot and always claims that my hard drive needs to be checked. I always have to type c and then i to ignore the errors and then wait a bit for it to boot to login. It takes a few seconds after that before I get to the KDE desktop. When I have used Linux in past years with other hardware it booted a lot faster!Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

There is no such thing as a "BIOS driver." Cold-start vs. warm-start could have something to do with the way motherboards apply power to various ports. And yeah, USB is slow; that explains the lengthy boot.
Mind taking a photograph of the post-login screen when the error appears? I assume it's a graphical dialog. I'd like to see it. I don't use Synaptic so I can't guide you through much troubleshooting with that. /usr/bin/synaptic.cfg really sounds quite odd...

no I dont have any external HD's ,,,,,but steve is right about it being slower than a internal HD , mite as well be a usb flash drive, I do have a HD enclosure I can put a hard drive in (I have several old desktop HD's laying around )and attach through USB to access it's content though but I do not use it for booting an OS just for storing stuff when my mane HD starts getting full .
are you sure the error is synaptic and not synaptiks ?
