No sound over HDMI (Sandy Bridge)

    No sound over HDMI (Sandy Bridge)

    Hi,

    I just did a clean install of 12.10, but cannot get sound working over HDMI (well, actually over DVI). My previous installation was openSUSE 11.4, and this hardware setup worked perfectly fine with it.

    I've looked around and taken the steps suggested elsewhere to investigate the issue (identified correct device via aplay, made sure pavucontrol and alsamixer settings look reasonable, tried running "speaker-test -c 6 -D hw:0,3 -t wav", etc.), but to no avail. The "speaker-test..." command runs fine, by the way, but no sound comes through.

    Does anyone have any thoughts on what the issue might be? Or has anyone else experienced something similar? Any help is appreciated. I'm including the output from "aplay -l" and "aplay -L" below.

      For future reference in case anyone encounters the same issue, I resolved the problem by using an HDMI cable to connect instead of a DVI->HDMI cable. Not sure why it matters since it worked fine before, but willing to let that go for the sake of having a functional setup.
