Boot screen hangs after upgrade from 12.04; last kern.log msg: modemmanager ended

    Hi,

After upgrading an ASUS Eee PC 1005HAB from 12.04, the boot splash screen (http://i.imgur.com/zZULA.png) stays on forever. When checking /var/log, the last messages are in kern.log:

modemmanager main process (12345) terminated with status 255
    modemmanager main ended, respawning
modemmanager main process (12347) terminated with status 255
    modemmanager main ended, respawning

    … and so on.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Thorsten

If you have a wired connection I'd suggest going to Recovery Mode and doing an apt-get purge modem-manager and then an apt-get install modem-manager. Otherwise you're in for a total re-install it appears.
