problems setting up a proxy

Hi,

I've been attempting to setup a proxy.
I got a proxy list from http://www.proxynova.com/proxy-server-list/country-ca/, chose 199.119.76.111 at port 8080, went to System Settings - Network Settings - Proxy and chose "Use manually specified proxy configuration", added the IP under HTTP Proxy:, set the port to 8080 and checked "use this proxy for all protocols", hit apply but when I go to http://www.ipchicken.com/, I still see my old, native IP address, why is thaat? What am I missing?

No but I have restarted my network card:

$ sudo ifconfig eth0 down
$ sudo ifconfig eth0 up

Exit and restart your browser.

That's what I had to do, and I'm making this post via that proxy. I left Firefox open, configured the proxy in System Settings, and opened the IP Chicken page. It still showed my actual IP address. When I exited and restarted Firefox, IP Chicken showed the proxy.

It isn't necessary to bring the interface down and then back up.

Funny, and that particular proxy (199.119.76.111) worked for you? I'm using Google Chrome but when I restarted the browser, I wasn't able to open any page any more until I disabled the proxy again...
