No more 3D in vmplayer win7 guest

On my 12.04 install with xorg-edgers I had 3D working smoothly on my vm win7 guest.

Now on 12.10 my vmplayer 5.0.1 3D acceleration gets disabled because my host system does not support 3D in win7.
xorg-edgers installed.

What am I missing?

VMPlayer 5 (and Workstation 9) appear to have reduced the ability to get 3D guest support working easily. Multiple threads in the VMware Communities forum reflect this.
