    Can't connect to Canon MP560

I just installed Kubuntu 12.10 using WUBI. My canon MP560 doesn't appear as an option when I go to isntall printers. Is there a work-around for this? I hear cannon has some really bad Linux support...

    Have you seen this:
    http://www.iheartubuntu.com/2012/02/...ntu-linux.html

Can't say if it works or not, but might be worth looking at.

Also, there are a couple of results in google that might help, I searched "canon MP560 and kubuntu 12.10 " (the above link came from that search as well).

Thanks for the response. i tried to install the MP560 driver after I installed the PPA and updated, but got this:
      Code:
      jake@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-mp560series

After some more searching I found this comment:
For the 12.04 you need to get quantal repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ‘deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/michael-gruz/canon/ubuntu quantal main’
In the comments of this article:
        http://linux.mjnet.eu/post/413/ubunt...river-install/

It should work for 12.10 as well (since it is Quantal). Or, you can simply download the the deb package directly from here:
        http://ppa.launchpad.net/michael-gru...r-common-3.20/

        Good luck.

What exact dependencies did it say was not met? Yes, the i386.deb would be the correct one. Although, there are four debs that say i386 and I don't know if your need all of them or just one. Again, the exact error about the dependencies might shed some light on the issue.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. It just says dependicies not met in the installer. I don't know exactly what is wrong.

Did you try adding the repo suggested above? That might allow the dependencies to get resolved. Again, it was:
                Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ‘deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/michael-gruz/canon/ubuntu quantal main’
Then try running sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-mp560series again.

When I try to install that repo i get Error: need a repository as argument

Alright, I have been trying to get the DEB files to install without success until this morning. I came across this article:
                    http://longair.net/blog/2010/06/06/t...560-on-ubuntu/

Go to here to download the driver package:
                    http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010756.asp

Once downloaded, extract the cnijfilter-mp560series-3.20-1-i386-deb.tar.gz file. At this point you can do one of two things. One, you can follow the instructions outlined it the above article, or two, you can simply try installing the two DEB files in the extracted packages folder by navigating to that location and running sudo dpkg -i *.deb

I don't own said printer, thus I couldn't fully test this, but the second option installed the two DEBs for me without issues. Good Luck!

Those drivers isntalled without a hitch, however, the printer doesn't show up in the menu. All that is shown are the menus labled local printers and other network printers with options under both, but my MP560 is not shown.

Where exactly are you seeing the "menus labeled local printers and other network printers with options under both"? I assume you would have to configure printer after installing the drivers.
"Systemsettings -> Printer Configuration -> New Printer"
I assume at this point you should see your printer drivers listed, but again I haven't recently needed to setup a printer so I can't help here. Also, if all else fails you can try going through the setups listed in that last article.

My printer drivers do not appear under the menus, even though they installed. Here is a screenshot of what I see: Click image for larger version
