    Screen artifacts - Intel video

I have a Dell XPS with Bumblebee installed, but I'm using it only for the power management. Just got this machine from my employer. When I first installed Beta 2, there were some minor screen artifacts that went away most of the time; however in the last two days, they've become major. There are huge, white splotches behind the windows. See attachment for details.

    Is anybody else getting this?

Here's the output of lspci for this video card, if it helps:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
    Subsystem: Dell Device 054f
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 46
    Memory at d2000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
    Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
    I/O ports at 4000 [size=64]
    Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
    Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit-
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2
    Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features
    Kernel driver in use: i915
    Kernel modules: i915

Thanks for any help that anybody can offer!

Forgive my ignorance, but what am I supposed to be looking at on that screenshot exactly?

The huge white splotch behind individual windows. I don't have a white screen background.

The large white border around windows.
Have you tried turning Desktop effects off?
Are you using OpenGL or XRender?
Have you tried a different desktop theme?

Turning desktop effects off just creates different artifacts (little notches of white at the borders of the screen, and black splotches around tooltips and the K menu). I've tried the straight Oxygen theme and the custom qtcurve-based theme you see in the screenshot, and it doesn't seem to have an effect. I haven't tried with XRender; will try that next, but I'm not hopeful since it still happens with effects turned off.

Update: Well, I've now been operating for several hours with no issues. I first tried what was recommended in the 2nd ubuntuforums post above (install mesa-utils) but that had no effect. I then changed the Qt Graphics Subsystem in the Advanced tab on Desktop Effects to Raster from Native. I have no idea what this does, but so far, it's done the trick. I have Desktop Effects enabled and am still using OpenGL.

I'll report back if something else strange happens. :-)

It uses QT (raster) to draw the windows and decorations instead of X11 (native), I believe.
