    Kubuntu Quantal Final Testers Needed

    http://planetkde.org/
    --> http://blogs.kde.org/2012/10/12/kubu...testers-needed
Less than a week until Kubuntu 12.10 is due out and the candidate images are needing testing.

Join us in #kubuntu-devel and get the images from the ISO tester, run them in a range of configurations and report the results on the tester...

this is just the sort of thing that would interest me but I feel that my knowledge is not yet sufficient to do the testing justice. However, this is definitely one for the future and so many thanks for posting and putting it out there.

I tried out the release candidate from an usb drive.
      Does not work so well.

      1. Desktop effects are only available after updating x and the intel driver.
With the plain rc image kde reports that the effects engine is
not running and 20 effects are disabled.
      2. taskbar blur does not work, seems to be an on-off type of thing with KDE
over various releases. Long standing issue.
Tried air and the oxygen theme, does not work in both.
      3. there is a quite horrible tearing effect reported by me already.

      4. After upgrading, when I select rekonq - configure it crashes always.

Due to 3 I think that sandy bridge users with a 2500k might not be so happy with this release.
The problem is not kubuntu-specific, also occurs in Fedora 18 alfa.
I think Martin Graeslin needs to fix this in kwin somehow.

I upgraded my existing 12.04 release with kde 9.2 and I will stay with that one.

I installed the daily and updated it today. So far really impressed. No massive problems at all so far, just one issue with getting the right Plymouth screen once installed. I had to install the GRUB add-on for KDE System Settings, and enable the right resolution in both the GRUB setting and the Linux Kernel setting. Once this was done, all was great, but before I was getting a very poor low-res boot screen.

        I'll keep on playing.

          Yes it does.

View > Adjust View Properties... and set Properties to what you want, then Apply View Properties To and check All folders. Click Apply and OK.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

the images from the ISO testers are different to a twice daily update?
My guess: they are the same. The Q is mostly done /1, 2/.

I found out (or missed out) Dolphin no longer has an option to apply settings globally.
As "Snowhog" wrote there should be. The quick/old way /3/ is

            a) Make the ~/.kde/share/apps/dolphin/view_properties/global/ if it doesn't exist
            b) Open the Dolphin in the ~/.kde/share/apps/dolphin/view_properties/global/ and and turn the Icons/Details/Columns/Preview/... on/off.

The Dolphin should use those settings as global defaults if there are no local settings (.directory file)

At here /4/ the Q seems to be a small step forward for the KDE kind. There are small quirks /5, 6, N/ but they avoided with the workarounds and will be (hopefully) fixed with the KDE 4.9.X or with the Kubuntu RR + KDE 4.10 ...
