If you don't like amazon stuff popping up and you can do without Amarok , apt-get remove amarok and your problem is solved.

Could you provide a little more context around your advice? It's a bit strong to recommend that people remove an entire product -- a media player with a large degree of functionality -- just to avoid some ads. I use Amarok, and I never see Amazon "popups." Can you describe what actions you're doing that cause what you're seeing? Possibly provide some screenshots? -
I don't recall any popups either. One can quite easily turn that off, as well as any of the other music stores, etc. Actually, imo it is the number of these plugins running that make Amarok a resource hog. Turn em off, restart the program, and see.Comment

Right... I had forgotten about the store plugins. I disable those right after a fresh install. Disable = forgotten!
