The great news for all you AWN/Cairo-Dock users is that 4.9.2 fixes the icons not updating bug.

Good, even though I only rarely noticed it with Cairo-Dock.

Just reloaded the software list again, but 4.9.2 is still not in the Quantal repositories, even though the Kubuntu site says that it should be:

      Kubuntu Raring Ringtail x64 w/ Kde 4.10.5

Just looked on Launchpad, and it's there, but I'm still not seeing any Kde updates here. Had a few other updates, but nothing Kde-related.
          ...
Oh, I got it now! In "Software Sources", I've changed the update server from "Server in Germany" (it was set to that automatically) to "Main server", and now I'm seeing the updates!
It seems the server in Germany is slow with the updates...

Just came online and applied the updates. It's nice to be running the leading-edge KDE distro.

Question: I see tonight, that I would be upgraded to KDE 4.9.2, however, doing so would REMOVE kmail kontact korganizer libeventviews4 as well as holding back:

                akregator kaddressbook kdepim-kresources knotes libcalendarsupport4
                libincidenceeditorsng4 libkdepim4 libkdepimdbusinterfaces4 libkdgantt2
                libkleo4 libkpgp4 libmailcommon4 libmailimporter4 libmessagecomposer4
                libmessagecore4 libmessagelist4 libmessageviewer4 libtemplateparser4

I'm not so worried about those packages being held back as I am that my Email suite is going to be removed and not replaced.

I don't know about not being replaced. Even though I don't use it, I now have Kmail 4.9.2

While I don't use it (only using webmail), kmail updated just fine when I updated recently. Version now is 4:4.9.2-0ubuntu1. Same goes for: kaddressbook kdepim-kresources knotes. I didn't have any packages held back or removed when I updated.

It seems to be a server problem on your end. The server you use hasn't fully updated yet, and the not-updated packages are being held back, causing behaviour like this.
Open the Software Sources dialog (you can do that from within Synaptic, or start it separately) and, from the server list at the bottom of the first tab, pick "Main server". Reload the package list. Updating should work fine now.

Just noticed that I'm downloading a lot of the updates again but this time the label is 4:4.9.2-0ubuntu2 - what is the significance of that?

                          Resolved.

Tonight I remembered that I had a 'custom' libkdepim4 package that was the cause. I forced the re-installation of that package followed by the installation of kmail libmailcommon4 libmessagecomposer4 libmessageviewer4 libtemplateparser4 and a dist-upgrade. I'm now using KDE 4.9.2 and my kmail and kontact are fully functional.
