Well after a several month, off and on, project I finally managed to install 12.10 in 64 bit and got a definite noticable difference. Much faster now, especially on upgrades or any downloads via CLI. Of course Quantal has been a rock solid platform in my earlier 32 bit load, and it's a bit early for me to say the same about 64, but so far I'm very glad I went through the trouble. Anyone else having trouble, I did the install with a centon USB (gave up trying to use Sandisks long ago) and UnetBootin.
