    Upgrading to Kubuntu 12.10

I was thinking about trying out 12.10. I was wondering if it is better to do a clean install with a usb or use the upgrade tool. Is there a performance difference?

There should not be a performance difference between install methods. Which one you use is basically up to you, and what you are willing to do. Although it is pretty stable, 12.10 is still beta, so there may be problems upgrading. Some folks swear by doing a clean install every release, others do the upgrade. I usually do both and I do give the live disk a go before I do a clean install, creating it using usb-creator and at least a 2gb stick so I can save any settings I have made. This makes it more like a real install for me.

I suspect the majority do a clean install if it is their main system, but that does leave fewer people testing upgrades/daily isos on a wider selection of hardware. I don't think upgrades are part of the QA team testing at the moment, I didn't notice any tests for it, However bug reports are welcome if there are issues.

If you peek at some of the testing, not many Kubuntu users take part , even me, lately.

Thanks, I think I will install it on a separate partition. Might as well be on the safe side.

I am dual booting 12.04 & 12.10 and I have done a clean install every time since Alpha2. I can see the idea behind doing clean installs just to be sure you get right the first time, but as stated some upgrade and others do a clean install. I will be doing an upgrade for the official release.

I have been using Kubu 12.10 for the last month(s).

It has daily updates/upgrades, WHICH I DO USING THE TERMINAL.

I did it as a clean install.

          It has been rock stable.

I have not had a bug or a crash yet, I am also using Nvidia's Beta driver.

Wait, so how do you upgrade with the terminal?

                With:
                Code:
                sudo do-release-upgrade -d
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Okay I did not know you could do that. When is the expected release of 12.10 anyway?

October 18, 2012 is the 'target' date for the official release. It's out now as Beta 2. I just installed it on my other laptop.
