It is not necessarily Grub or Grub configuration -- it could well be the kernel configuration options that were used to compile the new kernel. Unfortunately, unless you first install 12.04, and then use the upgrade path to 12.10, there's no convenient way to have a 12.10 system with the last 12.04 kernel. But I'm suggesting that if you could have that configuration, you would find the 12.04 kernel booting you to a proper display, and the 12.10 kernel booting to the "powered down" display.

It's got something to do with the boot-related files in Quantal, and it looks like it's got nothing to do with Grub.
If your primary concern is to not have to fix things or make adjustments to a new release, I suggest you stay well away from anything labeled Beta or maybe even consider not upgrading at all.
Based on your statement above, you should return to 12.04 and be happy.
On the other hand, if you want to try out the latest and greatest releases, by all means do so. But I doubt you'll ever be happy if you continue to expect no issues at all. Remember - you didn't pay for this OS and no one owes you any results or service. A great number of users here are successfully using 12.10 without the problem you're having. You might get more satisfaction out of actual troubleshooting and problem solving (looking for solutions) rather than ignoring advice and complaining.
Possibly switching to a distro that offers fee-based service like Ubuntu or Red Hat would be a better choice for you. Either way, good luck with your future linux travails.

By all means, you're coming off as very brash and abrasive here.
It's the point of people installing betas to come to the appropiate forums, report undesired behaviour and then consult with others about it.
Nobody is helped if you come along and pretty much say: "Quit your whining, if you don't like the beta, go back to the previous versions, although you'd better get the f*ck out and use another distro."Kubuntu Raring Ringtail x64 w/ Kde 4.10.5

A solution was to press F6 and check "nomodeset" before installing. How is a first user of kubuntu going to react?

Which I why I reported it here, so it can be fixed before the final version gets out.
Having a black screen on boot as your first experience would quite possibly turn away newcomers. They might even think that it's crashed and hit reset, before they can find out it's just some boot-related problem, and anything else still works fine.Kubuntu Raring Ringtail x64 w/ Kde 4.10.5

3.5.0-15.21 instead is working good.
Yes, I'm also using kernel 3.5.0-15.22.
So that's what is causing this black screen? Good to know.Kubuntu Raring Ringtail x64 w/ Kde 4.10.5
