    U 600 3G/4G modem from Virgin Mobile/Sprint - Is it working on 12.10?

Since I have good 4g coverage in my area, I decided to get a broadband modem and sign up for the Virgin Mobile 3g/4g prepaid plan.
The modem (3g part) is detected with lsusb and so is the storage part.
The 4g modem apparently needs a driver before it can become active.

Sprint has detailed instructions on how to install their U600 modem and get it to work. It requires to compile several modules and drivers from their source code. They also have a .deb version available, which I installed. Unfortunately, it works with kernel 2.6.35 and up.

I do not feel confident to use the Sprint code to compile the necessary modifications for the kernel 3.5.0-13.

Does anyone have already experience with this? Would the Sprint source code compile also for the current 3.5 kernel?

Can anyone assist me with this issue, please?

    The answer is:
Yes, IF you can set it up properly.
Sprint has detailed instructions on how to compile the modem driver for the 4g part.
And instructions on installing the 3g modem section as well.

    My problem:
lsusb shows a Four Port Hub
    and
the modem via wendor product numbers.

But it does not get installed. USBserial is not to be found, no USB modem ports are set up.

Does anyone know how to install a USB modem (with data storage part) on 12.10?
I cannot find my own post on how to do it in an earlier version of Kubuntu.

I must be missing something very basic.
