Installed 12.10 on my laptop and everything runs wonderful. I did install the Nvidia driver via Jockey, but that gave me a console login only. I can start KDM from there, no worries, but i prefer the GUI. So i switched back to the Nouvea driver.
The only show stopper from installing it on my desktop, which has 12.04, is that VMware (4.04) will not compile properly. The Virtual Network and Blocking Filesystem components come up with an error. I have applied the patch "VMpatch 3.2.0.patch", and that installed ok.It is not really a big problem at the moment as i use my laptop mainly as a media centre and a testbed for the lastest and greatest distros with VMware. I use it more seriously on my desktop with Win7 so i can take some work home with me.
And i like to upgrade my desktop eventually, but am a little reluctant do so if the same thing is going to happen. The kernel version on the laptop is 3.5.0-13 and the desktop is 3.2.0-30 generic pae. So it could be a kernel version issue, rather than KDE or Kubuntu.
I have attached the log i was told to check after the compile failure and it is riddled with errors, but i have no idea what they mean.
Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks
Gerard
