This just happened to me, I updated couple hours ago, rebooted as there was a new kernel, but didn't notice the lack of scrolling on my touchpad, I suggest giving it a bit of time, these sorts of things happen then get fixed, if something failed to build in the packaging queue, or hasn't quite made the move to the repos. Odd as synaptiks is the same version in Precise, The xinput is 1.6, a slight pump from Precise.

See Launchpad bug 1002736. The Xorg-synaptics (with a "c" ) driver had deprecated several unused functions, and the latest one finally eliminated them. The Synaptiks (with a "k" ) touchpad utility expects to see these functions, and crashes when it can't.

I had been able to delay the error by pinning the old Xorg-synaptics driver until just a few days ago. The X Server stack now in Quantal has a dependency that's incompatible with the old Xorg-synaptics driver.

Ah, that probably explains why Synaptics complains that it can't find the touchpad on my new Acer V3-771G.
Doesn't matter to me anyway, I don't use the touch pad. I'm a mouse man.
Anyway, the touchpad works as it should but, thankfully, the Fn+F7 key combo disables it as it my script doing the same had run.

So why the heck did your bug report get action, and mine didn't. lol! I did forget to post it here, though. The xorg-edgers folks must have been paying more attention

Also, for myself and the OP, synaptiks does not crash, but I think both these issues must stem from the same thing, even though we are using different Kubuntu versions - Our 12.10 to your 12.04, albeit with updated xorg

Hello. This message appeared to me too. I've accidentally (really, it was not planned) updated to Kubuntu 12.10 Beta 2.
XInput version 2.0 here. How to get rid of that message?

Oh, looking the version at Apper, it says 1.6.
Anyway, my touchpad is working flawlessly...
