Anyone tried the 3.6 kernels yet?

RC2 isn't doing so well for me.

On my T520, it gets funky with my external keyboard. I can't type my password in KDM, although the keyboard's Trackpoint will still move the mouse pointer. (Curiously, switching TTYs does work, and then the keyboard functions fine.)

On my X1, the temperature ramped up very quickly (along with the fan) moments after booting. top showed only 0.1% CPU usage, weird. I powered off the machine when sensors showed the CPU at 85 degC!

    Running 3.6 rc2.
I am delighted! This is the first time i am able to use OSS drivers and i don't need to listen Music for Airports
I've reported a bug more than a year ago:
    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37112
But there was no fix until 3.6 (i always try every new kernel to see is this fixed). Finally (altough, still not flawless - some flickering i have), it seems i will be able to drop that horrible catalyst driver. Hope they don't "fix" this for final 3.6.

I'm running a well oiled, jeweled machine. Since it's not broken I have no plans to fix it!

I will try it on my 12.04 over the WE. Wonder how it will work with x-org edgers?

On a VM, lightdm crashes, so I installed kdm and it works. However, immediately after logging in via kdm, plasma-desktop crashes. So it's a console-only system at the moment.

Have been running RC5 for a week on my 12.04/xorg-edgers system. No problems here, yet.

3.6 is marked 'stable' now, and 3.6.2 is out. Does anyone know of a simple straightforward method to upgrade to this branch, preferably using PPA and Muon?

I'd hoped to put my days of hand-compiling kernels and worlds behind me when I stopped using FreeBSD.

I have not tried it myself, but here's a bold claim: http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/10/inst...on-ubuntu.html

Yeah, I'd seen a few of those "does everything" scripts around the net, but none of them is going to keep the kernel up-to-date via the package manager of your choice like a proper good PPA would.

In the spirit of constructive comment (and NOT anything against Kubuntu ...), you know there are a few distros that deliberately offer the latest kernel versions in a conventional repository, installable via apt-get dist-upgrade. I happen to run one:

                          Code:
                          don@imerabox:~$ uname -a
                          Linux imerabox 3.6-2.towo-siduction-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 15 06:42:00 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Actually, I didn't know that - I'm kinda hooked on Kubuntu though.

Yes, I wish the maintainers of http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ would resume using a PPA.
