    remove alternate?
    As long as ubiquity continues to choke on certain hardware combinations, dropping the text installer looks like a bad idea to me.

      Yay! More sync is always good.

      remove alternate?
      I agree with dibl. If the existing installer can be expanded to provide expert CLI mode, then perhaps the need for a separate "alternate" installer becomes less. I'd not want to see the ability to isntall via CLI disappear completely.

        Developments/discussion at UDS in regards to optical media images can be found here: http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-q/meeti...untu-q-images/

        actions:
        -change ubuntu-cdimage to 1GB images
        -but find solution to mac
        -track down and update install docs everywhere
        -drop DVD
        -keep alternate image with 1GB limit
        -work out why amd64+mac exists if macs have a BIOS emulation mode
        -drop powerpc images
        -drop omap(3) image unless someone finds a use
        -make a omap4 image for kubuntu-active
        -aim to create AC100/tegra images for desktop/active if testers
        [rohan] add pommed to seeds if it they do not cause problems for PC users
        [rohan] investigate macfanctld
        [Jonathan] there should be a way to install only with a CD (I know how much pain it is to download something with 56 kbit/s

          I'd like to see a minimalCD that has all the packages for ubuntu-minimal for command-line install (for example, on a 56 kbit modem connection or none at all). It would perfecr for those who don't want to wait a couple hours for even a CLI install to complete.

            I noticed that OMGUbuntu is running a summary of things for Ubuntu that came from UDS. Will there be summary of Kubuntu things, too?

              I agree wholeheartedly with bsniadajewski. It's time developers realized there are many of us that due to lack of resources, are forced to use older devices. The growing trend towards OS's that require more modern equipment to load, leave many of us in the lurch. While a long install through a slow conection would not be optimal, at least those who have very low bandwidth and older equipment COULD have acess to a modern OS. A minimal cd that could be upgraded through the CLI would solve this problem.

                I've typed up the work items as discussed at UDS. Please edit any mistakes or missing items.

                David will organise the council elections soon and after we have a new kubuntu council elected we can have a meeting to approve the work items.

                    Some seed changes I've made:
                    skanlite - requested at UDS and various times by users
                    kamoso - requested at UDS and equates to cheese on ubuntu
                    libreoffice -> calligra - experimental for now, people will moan about inability to save in MS Office formats, but libreoffice is just as buggy I feel, MS Office import is better in calligra, fits in better with the KDE focused aspect of Kubuntu
                    kopete -> kde-telepathy - it's maintained
                    kdm -> lightdm - likewise
                    language-selector dropped, patch added to kcm locale to install language packs

                      Wow, LightDM looks good. Much better than the default kdm.

                          Canonical just stopped paying people (well, person) to work on Kubuntu. Kubuntu still uses the repositories of the wider Ubuntu project.
