    Pre Alpha - Where to get it?

    Phew! I can get back to my regular multi megabyte update fix. I was starting to get the jitters. Pre Alpha all the way baby!

    Yup! Friday night I fly back home to Seattle from San Francsico, where I am now (on an ultra-crappy hotel network). This weekend I'll be moving the T520 from Oneiric to Precise and the X1 from Precise to, ah, Q-whatever-it-is-I-forgot-already-again. I will revisit and update my KDE-by-hand post, too.

      Quantal repos are alive, though they don't deviate from precise much yet, basically just gcc4.7 (and related packages) and packages for the version change (precise>quantal)

        It will get really fun when they start testing KDE 4.9 in it.

          Based on this release's name I would suspect that it will have a somewhat Dual purpose. Exists as one or the other, say Desktop vs. Tablet?

                  More information, including a Kubuntu-Active live CD and Mer Plasma Active (the distro featured on the [strike]Spark[/strike] Vivaldi tablet) compiled for x86.

                      See Ubuntu 12.10 Gets a Release Date. So I guess I opened this board a bit early. No matter.

                          Replace precise with quantal in /etc/apt/sources.list.

                          $ lsb_release -a
                          No LSB modules are available.

                          Description: Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
                          Release: 12.10
                          Codename: quantal

                            Precise is going on my T520 now.

                            I've changed my mind about bumping the X1 up to Quantal just yet. The currently available installers still don't know anything about UEFI. I downloaded hd-media/boot.img.gz, expanded it, and dd-ed it onto a USB. When I opened the USB in Dolphin, there was no /boot/efi directory. Which means the USB fails to boot when the computer is in UEFI mode (I checked). While it's possible to boot into BIOS mode and then convert to UEFI, that's really a pain.

                            I suspect Quantal will be in a useful state when Alpha 1 hits the repos and we have working Live and alternate installers.

                              ok, done it, now how do i do anything with it? it's not a session option and can't --replace.
