To make the helping a bit easier

To make the helping a bit easier

          1) Use the command line

          2) Add the full output as text not screen captures.

          About the error message

You have tried to install the Kodi with the command:
          Code:
          sudo apt-get install kodi
          The output is:
kodi: Depends curl but it is not installable.
What is the cause of this ?
          Try to install the 'curl'
          What is the error ?

I might suggest running apt-get update (again ) to see if there is/was a temp issue with the repos - the libshairplay0 package is available in the kodi ppa, and curl most definitely is available, as is the intel vaapi driver, in the official ubuntu repos.

            If this persists, try
sudo apt-get -f install , this may pull in those missing bits.

I have to concur with Rog here, pasting the terminal output as text is much easier for us to read, especially if one is using a mobile device to view things

Before installing Kodi I had an old version of XBMC that didn't work very well (I installed it from the Software Center)

I didn't uninstall it before installing Kodi, so could that be the problem ?

Anyway, I did everthing again and this is what i got

              ron@ron-Vostro-270:~$ sudo apt-get install software-properties-common

software-properties-common is already the newest version.

              libubuntuoneui-3.0-1 thunderbird-globalmenu libid3tag0
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

I'm willing to try that command but can you please explain to me what exactly it supposed to do ?
                What ' -f install ' mean ?

                  #9
The "-f" is shorthand for "--fix-broken", which attempts to install those missing pieces if it is possible. The "install" specifies, well, to install things (you don't specify a package name in this case).

I just installed precise 12.04 into a VM, updated it, added the ppa and went and installed Kodi no problem

Could you list any ppas you have installed in addition to the xbmc one?

do you mean other ppas I have ?
I have JDownloader and Google Chrome PPAs installed

By the way, I tried to uninstall Kodi, and then to install XBMC again so I could uninstalled it properly. But right now I can't even install XBMC from the Software Center anymore. Is says "the package system could not be initialized. your configuration may be broken. Unable to correct problems. You have held broken packages".

Ok, I am running out of ideas here. I was checking to see if you had any oddball ppas that might interfere, but you look fine there.

But to revert to xbmc, you would first need to not only remove Kodi, but also all the other things kodi also needed from the ppa.
An easy tool that does this is called ppa-purge, which you should be able to install using muon or apt-get

                        Then run:
                        Code:
                        sudo ppa-purge ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
This will remove the ppa entry and revert all packages you have from it to the official ones from Ubuntu. It will tell you what it plans to do before asking permission to proceed, so you can copy and paste the output into a reply if you are not sure about things before giving the OK.

Can you try installing aptitude directly?
