    Account setup in kmail

When I'm setting up an account in kmail, "Configure kmail" presents a choice between two formats (among others): Maildir format and Kmail format. That's puzzling since I thought that kmail uses maildir format. What is the difference between the two formats, and how can I choose the correct one?

    Found this on this site
    if it helps you?

    Code:
KMail can save messages in the following formats:

    mbox

This traditional UNIX format (the oldest) saves all messages in a single file. Directories are also simulated by means of individual files. The individual mails can only be distinguished by the From line.
    MailDir

In contrast to the mbox format, the MailDir format has a unique file name for every message. The messages are stored in the respective directories and can easily be identified and further processed. KMail uses the MailDir format (as the more convenient alternative) by default, but MailDir is not supported by many other e-mail programs. This can be a disadvantage if you want to switch to a different e-mail programm later and still access your old e-mails. Processing old mails in mbox format is no problem, however, if you select MailDir. Just copy or move the files to the MailDir folder.

      That older text doesn't help

Unfortunately that doesn't help. The screen for setting up an account offers these choices:

      IMAP Email Server
Connects to an IMAP email server.
      KMail Mail Folder
Loads data from a local KMail mail folder
      Maildir
Loads data from a local maildir folder.
      Mbox
Loads data from a local mbox file.
      Nepomuk Tags (Virtual Folders)
Virtual folders for selecting messages which have Nepomuk Tags
      POP3 E-Mail Server
      Connects to a POP3 e-mail server.

The text you pointed at offers only Mbox and Maildir, and does not at all address the question of the difference between "KMail Mail Folder" and "Maildir", which is baffling since KMail uses maildir format for its mail folders.

          From: http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdepim...migration.html
When adding a maildir resource you can choose between KMail Mail Folder or Maildir. Unless you have a mixed folder containing both maildir folders and mbox files, you should choose Maildir. For independent mbox files, like the one in the /var/spool/mail, you can set up a new MBox folder.
