We have three Linux systems in the house. My Uncle uses Kubuntu 13.10, my computer has 13.04, and my mom's is 12.04. My computer (13.04) is the one connected to the printer, and has network sharing enabled. Now, both other systems have been able to print perfectly fine, and my Uncle's is still able to print. However, ever since I upgraded my mom's system to 12.04.4, it no longer prints.
Cups was one of the packages that got upgraded during the process. I've gone into SystemSettings, removed the printer, and tried adding it again. No luck. Her system is set to see printers shared on the network. Every time I try to print off of her system, it says that the printer appears to be disconnected.
Also, at some point the Cups web interface (localhost:631) has disappeared, and can no longer be accessed, but cupsd is still running. I do not know if these issues are connected or not.
I've tried reinstalling cups a few times already, and it hasn't helped. I'm hoping maybe the next LTS (14.04 I think?) will work better, but that's still a ways off, and we sort of need this fixed now.
The printer is an HP DeskJet 5440, if that makes any difference.
