    SMplayer not playing video

    Greetings,

SMplayer is my default video player and now it will not show the video anymore, just the audio. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Michel

Presumably it did previously? What have you changed between then and now?

      Logs ?

The SMPlayer is a front end for the Mplayer/Mplayer2.

What are the logs telling ?

SMplayer > Options > View logs...

Do you see the video if you start the play directly with the mplayer/mplayer2

      Code:
      ~$ mplayer --help
      Usage: mplayer [options] [url|path/]filename
      ...

          Video out ?

          Your log has:

X11 error: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
          [gl2] no GLX support present
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.

What video out settings are you using ?
By the log - gl2 - Is that what you want ?
Should your hardware/driver support this ?

          SMPlayer > Options > Preferences > General > Video

If you try other options for the video output - any change ?

Is your Xorg log clean ?

          Log: /var/log/Xorg.0.log

          Just errors:
          Code:
          grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
          Warnings:
          Code:
          grep WW /var/log/Xorg.0.log
...and you could look what the glxinfo is telling:
          Code:
          glxinfo

I thought I'd hang back a while, but SMplayer, although it "plays" something, does not have "a controle GUI" at the bottom of it, it did some short while ago.

Some more information on the state of my system.

1- I just found out that my ATI proprietary driver was not listed nor obviously active when looking at "Additional Drivers"
2- Open GL in Kinfocenter results in a empty page and an error message.
3- the AMD Catalyst utility tells me I do not have an AMD card!
4- My virtual box asked me to remove the check I had in the Video tab of settings relating to 3D

So I obviously had something bomb my video driver without me noticing. Any clues?

                  Thanks,

                  Michel
