My trusty, beloved, default browser, SeaMonkey, has recently been failing me in a number of ways. It's not displaying certain pages correctly, i.e., it fails to display certain elements [that I don't even know are there unless I view the page with a different browser], some sites start loading and then switch to a blank page that continuously tries to load, etc. I'm using 2.0.14, and I have it tweaked...and tweaked to my liking. I've added certain things on my own, such as different colors for each tab, and I've tweaked add-ons that stopped being supported in SM a long time ago. I don't want to lose any of that.
I recently tried installing a newer version, and I made sure I installed it in a separate directory and everything, but it overtook my old version, too, in terms of its settings, look, functions. I quickly removed the newer version and re-tweaked everything to get SM back to how I like it.
But I REALLY need to upgrade to its newest version to solve the display problems I'm having. So what can I do to make SURE the newer version doesn't screw up the older version?
FWIW, my current version is installed in /usr/local/seamonkey, and when I installed the newer version I put it in /usr/local/seamonkey_2.15.2. For clarity, when I would run the older version I was running it with its /usr/local/seamonkey/seamonkey executable file.
In my ~/.mozilla directory, I can't recall now how it looked when the newer SM was installed, but I'm positive that there was a separate directory for it.
