My tomahawk doesn't play network streams. It was said at a forum that installing phonon-vlc helps. I had installed phonon-gstreamer. Now, I have both but that doesn't help. It was also said that uninstalling phonon-gstreamer helps. When I tried to uninstall phonon-gstreamer apt-get wanted to remove kubuntu-desktop too. It looks a little bit scary because I think I need kubuntu-desktop. Does anybody know how to workaround the problem?

I can't likely help directly (other than stating the obvious - that uninstalling kubuntu-desktop is probably not wise), but you might get help faster over at the Tomahawk forum.
BTW - I really like the idea behind Tomahawk, for the Youtube resolver if nothing else
