    Problem changing System language

    Hi folks,
I've got a problem trying to change my System language. If I go to to the System language settings, the "Apply" button is not active, and also the input method box is greyed out. Languages I installed earlier, but uninstalled now, remain in the list. I can go in the middle tab to delete languages, that works, also installing languages is no problem I just can't select them. I want try to delete English which is my default language now, but I'm afraid I'll mess up the system completely and need to reinstall...
Can anybody give me some advice about this problem,

    thanks in advance

    Robin

What language are you trying to change to?

I don't really need to change the language. I want to change the input method to use Chinese.
This how I created the problem in the first place!

Let me explain: I installed Chinese system language (without activating it) then installed Ibus, to get Chinese input. Didn't work, so I uninstalled ibus again, after this my system language menu was broken.
I uninstalled Chinese language but it remains in the list of available languages.

I can choose a language but not hit the apply button, and selecting OK doesn't change anything.
One more fact, via the local settings menu, I can choose a language and change my system language!! But the main issue is that I need the input settings active and that as far as I know only I can do in the system language menu...

Ive never installed Chinese before, but it sounds like similar problems Ive had with Japanese.

First, make sure ibus is installed. I believe you will also need the package ibus-pinyin.
Next, install the package im-switch if it isnt installed already.

Open the ibus settings menu (Settings > Keyboard Input Methods) and go to the Input Methods tab. From here you will be able to select an input method by clicking the tiny arrow next to Chinese in the drop down menu. You should pick Pinyin Im guessing.

Next, open up a terminal. Insert the following code to point your system to ibus:
        Code:
        im-switch -s ibus
Youll probably have to reboot before settings take effect. Hopefully this will give you Chinese input. You can adjust settings in the Keyboard Input Method menu.

I have a Japanese input guide that may be of help to you:

Thank you very much for your (extreme quick) reply.
Installing im-switch did the trick! After it, my system language menu was working again (no reboot needed)
Suffered still some problems get the Ibus icon in the panel, but in terminal "ibus-daemon -x -r -d" fixed this problem (found on some forum)
          Everything fine now.
          非常感谢你!

One (less significant) problem I still have though, it's the one I already described long time ago in another thread: http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...lways)-working
Any chance to get this solved?
