Connecting to samba share from win 7

    Greetings,

I have this problem since I started using Kubuntu. I can manage to see and connect to shared folders on Windows 7 machines but Windows 7 machines cannot even see my shared folders or my printers.

I tried all the googled solutions but without any effects.

    Thanks,

    Michel

check they are in the same workgroup the kubuntu machine wont care but the windows machine will. check the config file for samba ( /etc/samba/smb.conf ) for your workgroup . you could also try from windows typing \\<kubuntu machines name or IP> in the address bar of explorer to connect to a samba share.

OK Success!! I managed to connect with Win7 and Win 8 machines!

1- Make sure all machines have the same Workgroup
2- Win7 and Win8 "advanced network setup" allow for network discovery - file and printer sharing - turn on public folder sharing - enable file sharing for devices that use 40 or 56 bit encryption
3- Highlight the network connection in Win8 and make sure you "allow file and printer sharing"
4- You should normally see the Win machines in dolphin - network - samba - workgroup and connect with the win user name and password (add a new user on the win machine if you want)
5- On the Win7 machine go to control panel - appearance and personalization - customize the start menu - and click on run command. Go to start menu - click on run and enter \\the name of your computer (as it is displayed on the Konsole prompt). That should open a window with your shared directories and your shared printers. Map the shared directories and connect to the printers.
6- On the Win8 machine press the start button + R to get run and then follow the sames procedure.
